Dr. Jim Juimin Lin 林銳敏 dean of the Office of Research & Development describes the most important mission of the National Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology as internationalization – global perspectives for students, professors & courses.

Following this focus on internationalization National Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology has created numerous dual Master’s Degree Programs with leading universities around the world, including Waseda University Japan, University of Marketing and Distribution Science Japan, Baiko Gakuin University Japan, Himeji Dokkyo University Japan and University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, USA.

There are numerous advantages to a dual degree.  Foremost is simply cachet – to say one has not one but TWO degrees simply puts you that much farther ahead of the game.  Especially when those degrees can span West and East – from Taiwan, in the heart of the Asia Pacific, to Wisconsin in the heartland of the USA!

Dr. Jim Juimin Lin outlined many other benefits.  The economic advantage – Dual Master’s Degree students enjoy nearly FULL tuition compensation at sister schools.  Meaning that second degree comes nearly without cost and… in some cases may even be accompanied with a stipend.

And, not least – time.  Through the Dual Master’s Program sister schools recognize each others’ credits so that students may finish BOTH degrees in just two years!

Dean Lin pointed out that at among full-time professors fully 95% are Ph.D. holders who enjoy extensive real-world experience – the kind that informs theory with the reality of practice.  Further, National Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology attracts not just leading professors from around Taiwan but is also the campus of numerous distinguished international faculty.

In discussions Dr. Lin continued to emphasize the importance of internationalization.  National Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology provides support for students’ attendance at international conferences and presentations.  Further, that the National Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology plans to establish more all-English programs and degrees, similar to their IMBA program.

The all-English IMBA is a huge opportunity for English-speakers all across southern Taiwan to be able to get an advanced degree.  Dr. Si-Wei Chou 周斯畏, Dean of College of Management, points out that the program includes GENEROUS scholarships that can defray all or part of fees.

Dr. Ching-Wen Chen 陳慶文, Director of IMBA describes the IMBA’s focus on case study and international business law.  Students are also eligible for the dual Master’s degree through the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, USA. The IMBA program has established strong ties with universities across China as well.

Additionally, the National Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology offers an extensive Placement And Alumni Services Section and numerous Internship arrangements.  Regular job fairs are held on campus representing nearly all the Fortune 500 companies doing business in Taiwan.

Do Thi Binh teaches strategy management at the Vietnam University of Commerce and is a Ph.D. student at the National University of Economics , focusing on Strategy Management.  At the same time, Do Thi Binh came to National Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology for the IMBA program.

Do Thi Binh says that National Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology offers her many advantages – the all-English program allows her to strengthen her language abilities and the diverse international community in Taiwan allows her to make contacts with many westerners.  In addition, the numerous scholarships offered in Taiwan make it very attractive.  Students pursuing advanced degrees at National Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology are eligible for upwards of NT$30,000 per month of support!

Do Thi Binh says National Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology’s strengths in e-commerce and management have encouraged her to begin still even a 2nd Ph.D in E-commerce!  Do Thi Binh is married with a 2 year-old baby.  She plans to return to Vietnam and continue teaching at Vietnam University of Commerce.
