Learning goal: being able to hold a casual conversation Location: Tien Mu or nearby Time: After 17:00 on week nights I plan on staying in Taiwan for some time, so I want to learn specific phrases and vocabulary for eating out, talking with my friends, and traveling. Experience isn't necessary. Personality and availability is more important. Let's start with one lesson a week and go from there. I learn best in real life situations and through repetition. Destination learning is ideal for me and can be as simple as teaching me a phrase for ordering drinks or food at the cafe we have lessons at. Please have some text books available for me or be able to recommend some. I prefer a teacher who can speak Taiwanese as well because ideally, I'd like to speak to my colleagues in Chinese but my friends in Taiwanese. My background: I am 24 years old and have been traveling and working on and off for the past three years. I enjoy nature, farming, art, and physical activity. In university, I studied literature - I like the Chinese classics, but secretly I prefer wuxia novels.

I am also interested in learning Taiwanese for these same reasons, so I would like a tutor who can speak both. I am not a student, so I'm not concerned with being the most technically perfect speaker. I just want to be able to understand others, be understood, and have fun conversations. You don't need the best qualifications. I think having a friendly, warm personality is more important. I would like it if you could recommend a text book for me. When we get to know each other better, I would like to try to do some destination learning. For example, we go to the night market, and you teach me a phrase for how to ask for stinky tofu, then I say it. Real life experience. Let's start with one hour one time a week, and we can add more time if it works well. Hello, I am a graduate student from the USA. I am in Taiwan to do research for my PhD dissertation on Chinese literature. So I've already spent several years studying Mandarin and Classical Chinese. I am looking for a tutor to help me speak more fluently and with fewer grammatical mistakes, so that I can use Chinese to discuss my research with other students and scholars. Since I am always in the library studying, my speaking skills are not improving as much as I would like. It would be great to find a tutor with a lot of knowledge or interest in premodern Chinese literature, but not required.
