I'm Boris, a French expat who's just kicked off a two-year adventure in Taiwan, specifically in the Zhongshan district in Taipei. While I'm excited to immerse myself in this beautiful country, I've realized that mastering Mandarin would make my experience even more amazing. That's where you come in! I'm looking for a Mandarin teacher who can help me navigate this language. Since my work is fully remote right now, I have enough online meetings every day so I'd prefer to meet face-to-face for lessons. Ideally, it would be fantastic if we could have our classes either at my place or somewhere conveniently located between Shilin and Zhongshan districts. Plus, I prefer morning classes to kickstart my day with some language learning. To begin with, I'm thinking of dedicating 1 to 1.5 hours per week to our lessons, and of course, I'll diligently complete my homework to reinforce what I've learned. My goal is to become more fluent in everyday situations—chatting with locals, ordering dishes at local eateries, deciphering street signs, and tackling the grocery list with ease. I lived in Taipei for the last 4 years, I studied Chinese at NTU for 6 months and then with a tutor for about two years. I'm not quite fluent, but my chinese is pretty good, I guess like high intermediate. I just arrived in Taipei to work at a restaurant and am looking to learn mandarin whilst I am here to help me better engage with the people, culture, and (especially!) food in Taiwan. I have not yet started work so am very flexible with my schedule. I am a complete beginner so I don't need a tutor with a PhD, and will be limited by a restaurant wage, but I am easy going, very friendly, and a quick learner.

Hi ~ I have been learning Chinese for about 6 years and I took a break after having my baby last year. I have been following the books “A Course in Contemporary Chinese” and I am currently on Book 3. I am currently living in Linkou and would like someone to come teach either in my building (民富街）or in a coffee shop nearby. I prefer someone who is used to using these books also. My three children will be attending an all Chinese school soon. They have some background in Chinese, but they need a tutor to help them with practicing speaking and listening. They are 9, 8, & 6 years old. Their school is does not give homework, so the focus will be on speaking & listening, with some occasionally writing help. I've done about 40 hours of private tutoring before my arrival with a Taiwanese tutor online, so I'm not a complete beginner. I'd say I know around 250-300 characters so far. I'm in search of a tutor who is willing to push me as I enjoy moving at a quicker pace than most students. I want to put a serious emphasis on learning proper pronunciation and tone production.
