My wife and I are planning on moving back in a few years and I would like to raise my mandarin level as much as I can before then. I live in western Canada in the PST timezone. Hi, I'm currently a working professional who's looking to improve my conversational/daily Mandarin. I'd like to improve my speaking and listening, with reading is a secondary focus. At my current level, I'm able to do basics (ordering food, online shopping, simple questions), but struggle to follow conversations or complicated questoins.

My son has has attended an all-Chinese elementary school since first grade. He will being 5th grade next year. His teacher says that compared to other students his age, his vocabulary is less complex. At home, I speak to him in English, and my husband speaks to him in Turkish. We would like to hire a tutor to meet with our son twice a week, in order to expose him to more complex vocabulary. Our plan was to ask the tutor to read and discuss articles from Young Newton Magazine with him. This magazine seems to be the right level of challenge, because there are some unfamiliar words there and the topics will give him good exposure to science vocabulary.

He needs help with pronunciation, relearning characters and basics, practicing memory, and remastering speech. If tutoring goes smoothly, he could progress to learning writing and/or typing with you or a different tutor if you only want to practice speech and basics with him. His left hand is functional. He appreciates quality educators because his family is full of educators and administrative members and he would be a nice, respectful student. We are looking for a kind person to practice Chinese basics with him and help him reacquaint himself with Taiwan/the world because we don't want the common post-stroke depression to afflict him. I am using a photo from when he was younger because he looks grumpy in his recent photos. He has gained weight but is the same nice student.
