I am a 26-year-old mixed race woman. I was raised bilingual and can communicate effectively in Chinese, but I am limited to a conversational level.
With my current ability I can independently live, work, and travel in Taiwan, and I am almost literate enough to read the newspaper. My comprehension is good, but I need to build confidence in my speaking, which has always been my worst skill area. I have difficulty fully expressing myself in Chinese.
I also want to eventually be able to read novels and poetry in Chinese. I have a few textbooks already that I want to use, but it is important to me that my tutor is well-read and a lover of literature, and can make appropriate reading selections according to my skill level. I especially need help learning idioms. Currently, I think I am about as literate as a Taiwanese fourth grader.
I am a devoted student and expect a similarly devoted teacher who will push and challenge me. I will be living in the Taipei/Keelung area starting April 2018 and can accommodate any schedule for a few months before I find employment. I would prefer to be taught by a woman, but gender does not matter if you are the kind of teacher I am seeking.
