I am an English Teacher currently working and living in Taipei. I have taught children from as young as three to as old as sixteen years old. I like to approach teaching by understanding the students, what their interests are and how they like to learn. This way the student will enjoy learning and be engaged in the lesson and build a bond between student and teacher. My name is Jan, and I am from Kansas City (Missouri, USA). I have been interested in both learning and teaching languages since an early age, and I have learned two dialects of Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese) as well as some German and Russian. I only teach English though. My BA is from Whitman College, I majored in Asian Studies, and I first used my language skills in business. I'm a (relatively!) young and experienced teacher currently working in Taipei. My full time job is teaching early learners English and other import skills through the medium of English. As a tutor I have experience from kindergarten age up to adult learners who are preparing for their IELTS exams. I'm an intermediate Chinese learner but for adult learners who are not absolute beginners I will insist on a 100% English learning environment, for children I always believe it is best they think they teacher cannot understand a single word of Chinese so they'll be further encouraged to use English when communicating.
