I am an experienced and enthusiastic teacher, having previously taught English for both Hess (2012-2013), Columbia English (2013-2014) and Tutor4U (2013-2014; 2016). After completing my master's at Dartmouth College in the U.S., I am back in Taiwan to study Buddhism at 法鼓山. I am applying for the position of ESL instructor. I have around 2 years experience teaching English in Taiwan to learners from age 5 to age 40. In this time I have taught large and small classes to both gifted and struggling students. For the gifted I have taught directly out of novels explaining the nuances of English idioms, taught film classes where we explore American and European culture, and taught the fundamentals of creative writing. For it is impossible to read good English literature and not want to be better at English. For the struggling students I have designed individual courses to work on improving their weaknesses and keeping their strengths true. I've designed interactive classes for kids with ADHD and have worked with students who all they needed was a basic crash course in study skills. Most teachers can recognize that students are struggling but I have the uncommon ability to know what to do about it.  Throughout my teaching career I have experimented with a cornucopia of learning methods in order to surmount the problems posed by the most onerous classes. I've found that teaching charismatically is the best way to capture student's attention. To convey the material in a way that makes it jump off the page and come alive. I understand what helps people learn because I am a life long student. In college I have studied history, science, math, and graduated with a degree in philosophy with a G.P.A. Of 3.595. I am confident in my abilities, well spoken, patient, and committed to working in Taiwan.
