*Location
Tainan, the most ancient city in Taiwan, is also the cultural capital of this island. It was once occupied by the Dutch, controlled by the Ming and Ching Dynasty, colonized by the Japanese—all of which brought civilization and left influence, bad or good, to this place. The name, “Tainan,” stemmed from Ching Dynasty, when she changed the prefectural title of this place from ‘Taiwan Prefecture’ to ‘Tainan Prefecture’ in 1885. After the ROC (Republic of China) government took over Taiwan in 1945, Tainan became a provincial city till now. Thanks to the long history of Tainan City, the culture essence, accumulated during the last three hundred years or so, has make this city the most popular culture resort in Taiwan.
