Chaoshan
Before the Japanese Colonial Era Yang Ming mountain was called Chao Shan. “Chaoshan” means grass mountain, as the peak of Yang Ming mountain is carpeted with grass. Chaoshan Restaurant started in 1968. At first they started their business as just three or four tables with chairs under a big tree. Business was hard at the start. Even whole days might pass without a customer coming up the mountain. Now, decades later, there are 30-40 tables and a lush outdoor setting. Taipei 101 blinks softly in the distance left, Tamsui River rippling to the sea at your right. The big tree is still there, you can enjoy sitting under the tree watching one of the best night views in Taiwan.

The British Consulate Takow Restaurant
An impressive British Consulate was built in Kaohsiung as one of the terms of settlement of the Second Opium War (1856-1860). Set on a high hillside to overlook Kaohsiung harbor, the British Consulate building is now the British Consulate Takow Restaurant! During the Japanese Colonial Era (1895 ~ 1945) the consulate building was used as an ocean observatory.
