Homeroom Teacher - Elementary School

College Counselor - Secondary School

Taoyuan American School (TYAS) is looking for dedicated, certified teachers who have the potential to be innovative educators and commit to helping us achieve our goal of a quality learning experience for all students. We are an international G1 – G12 School offering an American curriculum for students who wish to study at universities abroad. We follow the US curriculum and school calendar.

Teacher Job Description:
1. Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum
● Review and develop quality lessons to ensure a guaranteed, viable, and relevant curriculum.
● Engage positively with other teachers in the review and development of curriculum programs.
● Align curriculum with the California Standards and the Curriculum Frameworks
● Assist with the selection and purchase of supplemental equipment and supplies for the program.
2. Evidence of Learning
● Implements assessments that accurately measure student progress of learning goals and provide evidence that informs the decision-making process.
● Continuously monitor the learning process in the classroom and make appropriate modifications of lessons and goals.
● Engage students and parents in the student’s learning through frequent and meaningful communication.
● Consult with administrators, counselors, teachers, and other relevant individuals regarding students.
● Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents in Thinkwave of each student's learning progress and daily attendance.
3. Instruction and Student-Centered Classroom
● Use the most effective and appropriate instructional practices to support learning goals.
● Consider student needs and interests when planning weekly lessons.
● Utilize technology to extend and enrich the unit learning targets.
● Work collaboratively to create and implement a program of study that is intellectually challenging
● Design and maintain a student-centered classroom environment that is conducive for learning.
● Implement an effective student-centered classroom management/discipline program which promotes student learning.
● Engage with students in meaningful activities beyond the classroom which extend learning experiences (e.g. organizing field trips, sponsoring parties and/or clubs, coaching).
4. Professionalism
● Contribute positively to the student-centered, learning focused school culture and be a productive member at TYAS.
● Stay current on educational issues, practices, and trends (e.g. assessment, instruction, technology integration, etc.).
● Stay current with educational technologies.
● Openly support and abide by all school policies and procedures.
● Collaborate positively with other teachers in the on-going review, articulation, and evaluation systems.
● Participate in professional development as scheduled for all faculties
● Other duties as assigned by the Principal

Required Qualifications:
1. Possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree or a master's degree or evidence of working toward it is preferred.
2. Hold a valid teaching certificate for the subject and grade level to be taught. This certificate must be issued by an authorized agency in the teacher’s home country.
3. Have completed sufficient college course work in their major teaching field.
4. Give evidence of previous positive teaching experience and previous international travel and/or two or more years of teaching experience are preferred.
5. Show recent evidence of professional growth.
6. Maintain necessary Taiwan/ROC government requirements for employment as a teacher.

College Counselor Job Description:

1. Schoolwide college plan
● Generate, coordinate and implement a schoolwide college preparation/awareness plan.
● Participate in events throughout the year sponsored by the College Counseling Office, such as evening college fairs, workshops, and possible college visit trips.
● Maintain a strong working knowledge of colleges and universities, which may include making visits to colleges and trips to local college fairs.
● Invite college admissions officers to visit the school and meet with students.
● Build and maintain relationships with university admission professionals.
● Understand the college admission process at a variety of institution types and selectivity Levels.
● Stay current on educational changes.
● Pursue appropriate professional development, including attendance at annual conference(s) in the counseling and admission professional organizations.

2. Student’s college plan
● Provide guidance, resources and tools to navigate the college search, application process to students and their parents/guardians
● Meet individually with student(s) and parents/to explore and identify appropriate college options.
● Guide students and others in understanding and utilizing the college admission data management systems.
● Educate students on appropriate interviewing techniques, self-assessment tools, and application essay writing techniques.
● Share financial aid and scholarship information on a timely basis with students and families.
● Monitor individual student progress throughout the college application process and communicate regularly with students via email, telephone, and/or Skype.
● Work effectively one-on-one with students and be able to address small or large gatherings of people to discuss the college admission and research process.
● Work with all students as necessary and when appropriate
● Prepare supplementary materials to be sent to colleges.
● Oversee that school credentials (transcripts and letters of recommendation) get sent to colleges.
● Write school recommendations for members of the senior class (detailed letters of support).

3. Administration coordination
● Handle incoming inquiries and requests and prepare written responses to routine inquiries.
● Check and distribute documents and correspondence.
● Review files and records to answer general requests for information.
● Prepare and edit documents; check and enter data; prepare and send mailings or packages.
● Coordinate information both internally and externally with broad constituents.
● Compile records of office activities and maintain a database system; update and maintain databases such as mailing lists and contact lists.
● Know standard office administrative and clerical practices and procedures.
● Serve as a general resource for students, parents, and teaching faculty regarding admission criteria and college data.
● Work with faculty to integrate college-related skills (i.e., essay writing, interviewing, etc.) into regular curricula.
● Work with the Principal to provide information about testing options and preparatory classes to include SAT, ACT, AP Courses, TOEFL etc.
● Provide support to the Principal to ensure best practices and efficient cooperation of the College Counseling department.
● Assist with other related duties as assigned by the Principal.

Required Qualifications:
1. Possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree. A Master's degree or evidence of working toward it is preferred.
2. Give evidence of previous positive working experience.
3. Show recent evidence of professional growth.
4. Natural leadership qualities with remarkable problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
