Sometimes, you just need a break. Now, we've all heard
about these cruises that leave Taiwan for a few days -- one way to get
just the break you've
been looking for. The boats go out into international waters, so bring
your passport. They head to a few of Japan's outlying islands and then
turn around, no dis-embarking. Plus, there's a casino onboard, so you
can finally live out that obligatory Hong Kong movie scene of breaking
the house, or your arch-enemy, at the baize covered tables. (Don't
forget your tuxedo for the full effect.) There's only one line that runs
these trips, the Superstar Gemini line. Boats leave from Keelung at
10pm. Curiously, for your Two and Three days of cruising, that 10pm departure evening is
counted as one. Some other things to note: you get at
least 4 free meals - breakfast, lunch, dinner and a midnight snack - and
while hot water is free, all other drinks are not. Costs average NT$
40-60 for a soft drink, NT$ 70-80 for a Taiwan beer, and NT$ 150 and up
for a cocktail. Each passenger will be given one liter of bottled water upon alighting the ship.
You're allowed to bring your own drinks if you want, however few people
do. If you bring any alcohol on board, it must all be consumed -- you
can't take it off again from the ship. If you order a bottle of alcohol
from the ship, there's a fee for them to open it. Now, tell your school you're taking Saturday off and get out into some sunny, care-free lounging! |
