The Center of Chinese Language and Culture(Mandarin Training Center) was established in the fall of 1956 as an extension, not a department of the National Taiwan Normal University. Since that time, it has grown to become the largest and best known institution in the Republic of China dedicated to the teaching of Chinese culture and Chinese as a second language. All levels of standard and Classical Chinese as well as Chinese culture are taught.

Part-time Schedules

Chinese Calligraphy is a studio class offered for two hours per week and taught by a professor of calligraphy at the Art Department of the NTNU. The class is open to students at all levels except those studying at the elementary level. Students are first introduced to the techniques and materials used in Chinese calligraphy and then practice these techniques.

Mandarin Phonetics is taught for two hours per day during the first week of each quarter. Students unfamiliar with the National Phonetic Symbols are strongly encouraged to attend as this is the transcription system in use at the MTC and is the most widely used system in Taiwan.

FULL-Time Schedules

Most students enroll in a classes meeting 2 hours per day, 5 days per work. The regular class may be supplemented with a culture class, tutorial or second group class, usually meeting 2-6 hours per week. Under special conditions, students may enroll in an additional 10 hour group class or tutorial (tuition will be adjusted for all supplementary classes). A special class load is not recommended for beginning level students and is not available during times of hight enrollment such as the summer session.

Group Classes meet 2 hours daily, monday through friday. There are six class periods, the first running from 8:10 - 10:00 a.m. The noon period, 12:10 - 2:00 p.m, is reserved for culture classes, lectures and special help turtorials.
