Fulltime Teaching Position Offer in Xinyi District, Taipei City – February 2018
30 hours/week, Monday through Friday (four instructional days, three periods per day & Tuesdays are planning, prep & staff development days)

OELS (Owls English Language School) is currently seeking teachers to fill a fulltime teaching position, beginning February 21, 2018. OELS is located in Taipei City’s Xinyi District, about a 15 minute walk from Taipei 101 Tower, and a five minute walk from the Xiang Shan MRT station. OELS teaches English to elementary age students, grades one through six. OELS uses a world-renowned language arts curriculum, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s Journeys. Weekly schedule is Monday/Wednesday/Thursday/Friday as instructional days; Tuesdays are staff development and collaboration days. Salary is 55k/month plus benefits. OELS is looking for:
• Career-oriented professionals who have established long-term residency in Taiwan, or are seeking to do so
• Experience working in a collaborative teaching environment
• Considerable experience teaching English to elementary age students
• A passion for teaching elementary age students
• Proven, effective classroom management skills
• Bachelor of Arts degree or higher
• Teachers who possess a teaching credential or license and/or certification for teaching English as a foreign language
• Professional letters of recommendation from organizations in the field of education
• Experience teaching English with a US public school curriculum is desirable.



What attracts career-oriented teaching professionals to OELS:
• OELS provides on the job training through various proven and effective approaches: team-teaching, teacher observation, peer coaching, as well as mentoring by a fully credentialed teacher (with a US public school credential) with 25+ years of classroom teaching experience. OELS also has staff development seminars on a weekly basis. OELS’ training program is based on California Department of Education’s BTSA (Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment) Program, which provides valuable support for effective classroom management, pacing of lessons, instructional strategies and many other elements of professional growth.
• OELS emphasizes collaborative planning and preparation, providing a minimum of six hours/week built into the regular hourly schedule. Yes, that means you are paid to prepare your lessons. We know that is essential to good teaching and successful, rewarding lessons. On Mondays and Thursdays, teachers have a two hour block (2:45pm to 4:45pm) for planning and preparation. On Tuesdays, teachers have between two and three hours for planning and preparation.
• OELS uses state of the art curricula and teacher guides. The core curriculum for teaching English language arts at OLES is HMH Journeys. OELS also uses Walsh Publishing’s Steps to Good Grammar, various Oxford University Press publications, as well as trade books.
• OELS has small class sizes, ranging from six to twelve students per class; we are currently averaging eight students per class.
• OELS believes in promotion through performance for its students; students advance to the next level of instruction when they are ready.
• OELS has four days of instruction/week: Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Tuesdays are staff development, collaboration and teacher preparation days. Tuesday hours are 10am to 2pm.
• Instructional days (M-W-Th-F) schedule: 12:45pm to 6:30pm on Wednesdays and Fridays; 12:45pm to 7:15pm on Mondays and Wednesdays.
• Fulltime teachers teach three classes per instructional day. On Mondays and Thursdays, classes are 60 minutes; On Wednesdays and Fridays, classes are 90 minutes. First period classes are 75 minutes in length on all four instructional days.
