I have been teaching EFL and related subjects for fourteen years in five countries. The majority of my experience has been in kindergarten, especially in Taiwan, but I have also taught at elementary and junior high schools, universities, and adult and ESP classes. Recently I have shifted toward curriculum development and teacher training and would be especially interested in a position that involves, or has the potential to involve, these areas. My MA's focus was on second-language literacy development, and I have additional experience in this area, including in textbook and material development, that makes me well suited to classes with a literacy focus. However, I also have extensive training and experience in developing communication skills, which are of course fundamental to learning a language for actual use. I believe that the center of any learning experience should be the needs and desires of the student, and that good teaching means being responsive to those needs and respectful of the student as a person. This is especially true with young learners, on whom we can have such a profound impact. The majority of my experience is with elementary and junior high school students (7-16). The pandemic put my teaching career on hold but while waiting for Taiwan to reopen I have used this time to acquire a masters degree in TESOL as well as CERT Tesol.
